Pick one corner — usually bottom-left or bottom-right — and keep your highest tile there at all times. Every strategy flows from this foundational rule. Never move your highest tile away from the corner, no matter what. This single principle will more than double your average score.
From your chosen corner, arrange tiles in a descending snake pattern. For example: 1024 → 512 → 256 → 128 along the bottom row, then 64 → 32 → 16 → 8 along the next row. This creates a natural merging chain that cascades when you slide.
Try to limit your moves to two primary directions — usually down and left (or down and right). Moving up or in the "wrong" direction often displaces your highest tile from the corner and breaks your chain. Only break this rule when absolutely necessary.
Keep at least one move available along the bottom row at all times. A full bottom row with no merges available forces you to move up, which risks breaking your chain. Always maintain flexibility in your anchor row.
Before each move, visualize what the board looks like AFTER your move AND after the random tile spawns. Ask: "Does my chain remain intact? Do I have an escape if a bad tile appears?" Players who think ahead consistently outperform reactive players.
Always try to merge tiles that are already doubles (4, 8, 16, 32...). Having many small odd tiles scattered around the board is the fastest way to lose. Focus on keeping your tiles as powers of 2 and merging them in order.
